About this object

This set of gold scales and weights were donated in 1975 to the museum by Mrs M C Thomson the granddaughter of William James.

The scales were used by William James who arrived at Ettrick in 1862 from Cornwall via the Victorian goldfields. Mr James was the local methodist preacher and conducted services throughout the area.
