Tin of Edmonds baking powder, sure to rise. Established in 1879 and still the most popular brand of baking powder in New Zealand.
Thomas John Edmonds, just 20 years old, arrived in Lyttleton from London and set up a small grocers shop. Learning that the locals were unhappy with the baking powder they could get he set out to create his own. When asked why it was superior Thomas replied, 'It is sure to rise Madam'.
