About this objectHand tin opener in form of animal head with blade as lower jaw and with spike through back of head. Tail bent back to form handle. The U.S. Army in the Civil War adopted Ezra J Warner of Waterbury's 1858 design of a lever type opener and issued the "bull's head" can opener with its rations of "bully beef". This type of opener was produced up to mid 1930's.
