About this object

Newspaper clippings on the formation of the Cromwell Fire Brigade. The first clipping records a public meeting to consider the advisability of forming a Fire Brigade in Cromwell chaired by the Mayor Mr D. A. Jolly. The next clippings record two further meetings including the formation of a committee.

A letter dated August 1990 attached to the clippings is from the Hocken Library answering a request from the Central Otago District Council for copies on the earliest meetings of the Fire Brigade. First meeting was held 2 September 1874.
