Argillite adze; Unknown; Unkown; CR2021.043.15

Name/Title

Argillite adze

About this object

A narrow flake adze of fine black metasomatized argillite, quadrangular in section. It is polished over the flaked surface without any attempt at hammer dressing leaving a very uneven surface. Attention has been paid to grinding a good sharp cutting blade with an angled bevel at the back. Very fine chips along the cutting edge indicate it has been used. A sharp woodworking tool, useful when hafted onto a wooden handle for carving and finishing wood.
