Argillite adze
About this object
Argillite adze. A classic type 2B adze (after Duff 1956)* of medium grained metasomatized argillite. The cross section is sharply quadrangular with the back narrower than the front. The angle of the bevel to the cutting edge is also distinctively defined. The adze has been hammer dressed and then polished all over apart from the poll. Some edgewear chipping on the blade. This adze would have been used for fine wood working.
