Book, Costly Gold, Clutha riches and their human tollMaker
AuthorAbout this object
An 88 page soft cover book including many black and white photographs telling the many stories of human courage, endurance and compassion of the miners and their families who paid a heavy price for extracting gold from the Clutha. For the miners there was backbreaking, heartbreaking, mindless toil, often for no reward. There was a high mortality from floods, extremes of climate, violence and greed. Robbers and swindlers, illness and accidents all took their toll.
