About this object

Ian Miller, of Wendon, imported this Ransome Plough from England in 1967-68. Importing the Ransome allowed Ian to compete in the then Atlantic Silver Plough Championship Class.

Ian undertook alterations to the plough including changing to New Zealand Duncan No.8 mouldboards and adding specially modified shares, made by Ian to suit New Zealand conditions.

Ian used the Ransome in 16 New Zealand Championships from 1968-1984, coming in the top five in 11 of the 16 contests. In 1977, Ian achieved his best with first equal, then he won the N.Z. Championship outright.

The highlight of Ian competition career came in 1982 when the Ransome was air-freighted to Tasmania for the World Contest, where it placed Second on stubble, Second on grassland and First Place overall.
