About this object

A black and white photograph of the Tuturau Reserve Committee, 1936. Centennial celebrations were held in December the following year (1937) to commemorate the site of the final battle between North and South Island Maori tribes. The NZ History website tells the story of this Musket Wars raid. The actual centennial of the raid was December 1936 but due to a polio outbreak, celebrations were delayed.
