About this object
A reprint copy of a black and white portrait of George Hannah, Junior, taken during World War One. His military serial number was 18394, details of which can be found in the Auckland War Memorial Museum cenotaph records. The crop and spurs were part of his Mounted Rifles kit.
George Hannah's family farmed at Tuturau for some years, before moving into Mataura. He was employed as a coal crusher at the Mataura Paper Mill from the end of the war until he retired. He married Mary Nelson and they lived in Hope Street. More information can be found in: 'Tuturau: A History of the District'.
