Photograph [Shanks Anderson Wedding Party in Car]

About this object

A black and white photograph of Philip James Shanks and Jane Elizabeth Anderson's wedding party sitting in a Darracq motor car, 1907.

Identified in the photograph:
bride, wearing large white hat - Anderson, Jane Elizabeth (Jean)
groom, wearing bowler hat - Shanks, Philip James
bridesmaid, back seat on right - Anderson, Ellen

The two men in the front seat of the car may be Anderson brothers.
It was the first car to be used for a wedding in Mataura. This car was sold to a Mataura customer in 1907 by the Stone Bros. of Invercargill. We think it belonged to C.P (Charlie) Sleeman who operated a successful coal mine in Mataura from 1893 to 1907.
