John Bews was one of 10 children born to Samuel Leask Bews and Besty Clouston Bews. Siblings include James Bews, Betsy bews - married Mr Blackie, Mary Ann Leask Bews who marries Mr Nicholson, Louisa Bews who marries Mr Brownlie, Frasereena Bews and Ann Marwick Bews who remain single and Ivy May Bews who marries Mr Mc Ewan.
I have a copy of a photograph of Bestey with 9 of her children taken in 1938. It would be great to put these two photos together and see if we can identfy some other Bews' in the wedding photo.
They hail from Orkney, Stenness, from Milnquoy farm, in the far north of Scotland.
Samuel Bews' brother James Clouston Bews is my G G grandfather.
Samuel, Betsy and their oldest child Henrietta arrive in NZ to Dunedin on the Oamaru - on its maiden voyage in 1875.
