A black and white studio portrait of Mary Shepherd (nee Kennard), mother, and children Thomas and Olive.
Thomas is wearing a World War One New Zealand military uniform, and was ranked a private. The light colour of Olive's dress contrasts sharply with the dark clothing of Mary and the uniform of Thomas.
