Photograph [Bridge Street, Mataura, early 1880s]About this object
Black and white photograph of Bridge Street, Mataura c.1881-1885 with a boy and a dog in the middle of the scene. There are nine people in the scene including a family of five in front of the fence by the Bridge. This gives a great glimpse of what people wore as every day clothes in the early 1880s.
The signage on two of the businesses is clear and helps date the photograph. C.O. Woodman, Chemist and Druggist operated in Bridge Street from 1881 to 1885 and T.A. Connor, Tinsmith and Plumber from 1878 to 1896.
