About this object

A black and white photograph of Trooper John Thomas McKelvie (4559) who served in the Boer (South African) War as part of New Zealand's 7th contingent. John caught enteric fever (typhoid) while in South Africa and his health never fully recovered. He returned to New Zealand in 1902 but died in November 1905.
