Cape
About this object
Cape; a women's black, woollen cape, appliquéd with a grape vine pattern from below the collar which continues around the entire cape edge. The collar is decorated with a smaller version of this vine shape. The inner front edges are lined with black sateen. It has 4 hook and eye fastenings and a button tab at the neck.
It originally belonged to Mrs Margaret Taylor (1871-1948) of Mataura. Mrs Taylor's husband was John Taylor who operated a local rabbit processing factory from 1893. It came to us via Mrs Taylor's daughter, Nan Willcocks.
