Wooden churn; WIH13
Wooden churn
About this objectWooden , 40cm tall, circular barrel with handle. Internal wooden paddles, lift-off lid. "Ideal" brand. Used on a farm on the Waikare Inlet. Given to I. Hall by Mrs H. Harvey. These churns were made of kahikatea or white pine, an odourless wood very well suited for such a purpose. Unfortunately it usually falls a victim to wood borer as soon as it goes out of general use, and for this reason many are burned and few survive. Made by Henderson & Pollard, Auckland.
