Invitation, Niagara Hall Opening
About this object
This yellow card is an invitation to the Grand Ball Opening of the Niagara Hall on Friday 27 January 1928. The dance kicked off at 8.30pm with Gent's having to pay five shillings for entrance, while Ladies were free.
Town halls were the focus of many social gatherings with musical acts, dances and community events drawing locals together. People from other districts would travel to such occasions, with residents of places like Chaslands, riding their horses through the bush to join the festivities at the Niagara Hall.
2018 marks 90 years since the opening of the Niagara Town Hall which you can still see just up from the Niagara Cafe in the old school.
