About this object

This etching of the front entrance to the Eastern Southland Gallery was created by local Eastern Southland artist, Jacqueline Byars for an exhibition held at the Gallery in 1998.

Jacqueline grew up in the Wendon Valley where she first studied at Waikaka Primary and then Gore High School. She went on to study a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Otago and has since been working in Southland as an artist. Jacqueline has a fascination with historic buildings and this is shown in a number of her early works which examined historic architecture.
