Documents [miner's permit and miner's right]About this object
Documents; a miner's permit and a miner's right. The miner's permit, number 1650, was issued on 30 October 1867, to Roger Harsant. The permit was issued in lieu of a right. The miner's right is numbered 6949, and was issued on June 29, 1868. The miner's right is printed on a piece of fabric. Both documents are mounted in a wooden frame.
All miners had to have a 'right' to mine on those lands open for gold mining in 1867. Money from the sale of these as well as a 25 shilling payment for kauri trees taken for mining purposes went to the relevant Maori land owner.
