About this object

A black and white photograph with the name; 'W.J. Forsyth' who was the son of John and Martha Forsyth, owners of a stationary, fancy goods, hairdressing shop in Riverton. Also written on the back of the photo is the date, 28 February 1905. It is presumed that the person pictured is his mother, Martha Forsyth (née smith) Born in 1863 in Victoria, Australia, Martha's family moved to Riverton-Aparima before her brothers birth in 1865. In 1882 she married John Forsyth and would have seven children. Martha lived a long life, dying in Ashburton in 1951. She is buried in Riverton-Aparima.
