A framed certificate of the services in the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces for Private Walter Gray, service number 23542.
Prior to enlisting Walter was a painter in Riverton. The Certificate records his service on the Western Front, one of the European theatres of war, arguably one of the most devastating campaigns of World War One for New Zealand. His duty commenced on 9 February 1916 and ended on 27 September 1916, upon his death in France. Walter was awarded the Victory Medal and British War Medal.
