About this object
A stuffed and mounted tokoraki (king penguin).
Native to New Zealand, King penguins are the second largest penguin species, being slightly smaller and lighter than the emperor penguin. They are circumpolar colonial breeders on subantarctic islands, including on Australian-administered Macquarie Island south of New Zealand. Murihiku Māori often travelled to the subantarctic islands.
