Name/Title

Spoon, Brass, Hamsa

About this object

A decorative brass spoon with a finial in the shape of a Hamsa. There is a Star of David in the centre of the hand, suggesting this might be a Jewish Hamsa rather than Islamic . It also features hieroglyphic writing in and on the bowl. The stem is decorated with botanical engravings and two inset stones.

There is no accession paperwork for this spoon; it might be a souvenir from general travel to the Middle East or Northern Africa, or a souvenir brought home by a soldier following World War One.
