About this object
2" Transit Telescope; manufactured by Thomas Cooke & Sons Ltd, circa 1900. Constructed of brass with black enamelled finish. Maker's mark impressed in centre of main body. Wooden case with hinged lid.
This instrument is thought to have belonged to New Zealand astronomer, Thomas King, and gifted to the Hector (Dominion) Observatory on King's death in 1916. It is believed to have been used by R C Hayes at the Dominion Observatory until about 1952.
