About this object

Plate camera; a large handmade rectangular camera, dovetail construction with very fine pins. Reinforced with screws in some places. Brass fasteners and attachments. One end features a black-painted metal hoop with holes for fastening to telescope; the other end houses the plate holder and shutter. Made for 8x6" glass plates.

Used historically for astrophotography with the 9.75" Cooke Refractor (COB072), certainly at Meeanee Observatory 1905-1912, possibly as early as the late 19th century.
