About this object

Victory Medal 1914-1919 awarded to "2/2120 DVR. J.A. FERNANDOS. N.Z.E.F."; gold coloured medal ["lacquered bronze"] and double-rainbow ribbon attached through ring at top of medal. Inscribed around edge of medal with recipient's name and service number. Obverse depicts the figure of Athene Nike, the goddess of Victory, with her left arm extended and holding a palm branch in her right hand. On the reverse is the legend THE GREAT/WAR FOR /CIVILIZATION/ 1914-1919 surrounded by a wreath.
