Couldrey House
The actual building of Couldrey House and what successive owners have done with it is more interesting than its Victorian authenticity'. It produces an effect of great charm as a Victorian country house and is an interesting record of the development of New Zealand middle-class domestic taste in decor. Of special note is a large amount of original Victorian/Edwardian furniture, domestic china and ornaments, seasonal, themed displays of Victorian/Edwardian Christmas or Valentine cards and dolls and dollhouse displays.
The house is located in Wenderholm Regional Park, surrounded by garden and magnificent old exotic trees. The governing Trust hosts an annual 'live' Victorian weekend focused on the date of Queen Victoria's death in January 1901.
