About this object

This is a photograph of Amelia Isabella Wishart.

About Amelia:

Amelia was born in 1887 to Isabella and George Kirkland of Bluff. She was the middle child and had two brothers. At some stage, George and Isabella shifted to Mataura Island.

On December 29, 1914, Amelia married John Jabez Hay Wishart. Amelia was 27 and John 43. John was an engineer for the Bluff Harbour Board.

The couple had one child, Isabel Margaret Wishart in 1918. They may have also had another child who passed away. A John Kirkland Wishart is buried with Amelia's parents in the Bluff Cemetery. He was only 3-hours old when he died in 1925.

John Senior died in 1932 aged 60. He was on route to England to oversee the construction of a tug for the Harbour Board. This left Amelia widowed for 38-years.

Amelia died in 1970.
