Photograph, Wyndham Bus Tram
About this object
This photograph is of the Edendale-Glenham-Wyndham petrol bus tram which briefly operated as public transport. The passenger service slowly became more and more restricted until the bus tram operated solely as a goods service. When the New Zealand Railway retired the bus tram and it became the Wyndham pie cart.
The tram is now cared for by the Pleasant Point Museum and Railway. The Museum has rebuilt the railcar from original plans and photographs. The tram is based on a 1925 Model T Ford truck chassis. New Zealand Railways built two of these railcars which ran on two branch railway lines in Southland from 1926 to 1931. Today, the bus tram is the only Model T Ford Railcar 'RM' 4 in the world.
