Photograph, Unveiling of Menzies Arch
About this object
This is a collection of photographs taken during the unveiling of Menzies Arch in Wyndham in 1926. Residents of Wyndham erected the Arch in memory of Dr James Alexander Menzies who was the first Runholder on land which later included the Wyndham township.
In 1854, Menzies took up Run 88 known as 'Dunalister' which was originally 38,000 acres on the eastern bank of the Mataura River. In 1887, Menzies gave 153 acres of land to establish the Wyndham Recreational Reserve. Menzies Memorial Arch is located at the entrance to the Reserve.
