The Wyndham Farmer, 1970s Editions

About this object

These copies of The Wyndham Farmer newspaper were all published from 1970-1974.

Ewen MacPherson printed then published The Wyndham Farmer for 39 years and when he died in 1934, his son Doug took over the business. Doug ran the paper for 20 years, with the last issue coming out on 19 February 1955. They closed during a prosperous period purely because they could not get any staff. For the last six weeks of the paper, Doug put out the issues entirely on his own and it was said that as Doug was finishing the compositing of the last page of the last paper, a man who wished to become a subscriber telephoned.

The Wyndham News Flash was subsequently published by Les Necklen, but when Mr and Mrs Neville Greenfield took over his business in 1962 he reintroduced The Wyndham Farmer, publishing until 1974.
