The Wyndham Farmer, 1940s EditionsAbout this object
These copies of The Wyndham Farmer newspaper were all published in the 1940s. The Museum also holds bound copies for each year from 1942-1949.
Ewen Macpherson printed then published The Wyndham Farmer for 39 years and when he died in 1934, his son Doug took over the business. Doug ran the paper for 20 years, with the last issue coming out on 19 February 1955. The paper closed during a prosperous period purely because Doug could not get any staff. For the last six weeks of publication, Doug put out the issues entirely on his own and it was said that as Doug was finishing compositing the last page of the last paper, a man who wished to become a subscriber telephoned.
