Postcard, Bridges over the Mokoreta River

About this object

This is a photographic postcard depicting the railway (foreground) and the road (background) bridges over the Mokoreta (Wyndham) River. The railway bridge over the Mokoreta, unlike the one over the Mataura River, had concrete pillars. This can be seen in the image.

Interestingly, after the Glenham railway branch line closed in the 1930s, the railway bridge became the new road bridge for a time.

Note the bicycle leaning against a fence. Presumably the owner has gone fishing down at the river.

This is the Mokoreta (Wyndham) River. The bridge in the foreground is the railway bridge, which unlike the Mataura bridge, had concrete pillars. The bridge in the background is the road bridge. When the Glenham line closed, the Mokoreta railway bridge became the new road bridge for a period.
