Name/Title

Scales, Wyndham BNZ

About this object

These bank scales were used in the Wyndham Bank of New Zealand.

The BNZ Wyndham branch opened in a hired bedroom in 1874. In 1879, a new premise was built. When renovations were done in 1894, the Southern Cross newspaper remarked that a brick building to replace the old structure would have been more fitting for the growing importance of the district. In 1910, a two-storey brick building, which included a residence for the manager, was built. The bank closed in the late 1980s, however, and as of 2019 the beautiful building remains at Balaclava Street, the main street of Wyndham.
