Bottle Opener, Cyril Instone

About this object

This is a bottle opener which was given to customers of Cyril Instone's Drapery.

Cyril Instone began his drapery shop in Wyndham in 1958, after acquiring the business from John Farry. In the 1960s he built and relocated to a new building in Balaclava Street, between McKay's store and the Currie Building. Among the usual items as in a drapery store, local sports and school uniforms were conveniently sold. In 1984 Mr Instone sold the drapery business to Patricia Bulling whose husband by then was running the Bulling's Store (previously McKay's) next door.

Long-serving assistants were Ethel Dynes, Elaine Johnstone and May Lee.
