About this object

This is a souvenir glass bath tub from the 1925-1926 Dunedin South Seas Exhibition. On one side is written 'Auntie to May', referring to May Hall of Edendale who donated the tub.

This item would have come from the NZ and South Seas Exhibition, held in Dunedin from Nov 1925 to May 1926.

The Exhibition took place in seven pavilions linked by covered walkways around a court of reflecting pools leading to the domed Festival Hall. The buildings occupied approximately 6½ hectares. There was an art gallery, a fernery with a waterfall, and an extensive amusement area. It attracted over 3.2 million visitors, more than double New Zealand’s total population at the time.
