Ruler, Drafting Curved; J Rathbone & Sons; 1890-1900; WY.1988.72.3

Name/Title

Ruler, Drafting Curved

About this object

This curved wooden ruler was used by tailor Frank Williams to create scaled patterns from original sewing patterns. It has a hole in one end, so could have been used for drafting larger curves than the shallow curve along the long edge.

Our tailor, Frank Williams Senior came to Wyndham in 1909, and started his own business in Balaclava Street, opposite the Post Office in 1915. His son, also Frank, took over the business after World War II, and this was the last tailoring business in Wyndham, finally closing in the mid-1970s.
