Name/Title

Set Square, Tailor's Waist

About this object

This set square is a two-piece ruler arranged in an L shape. It is used to create scaled patterns from original sewing patterns, and this one is marked on the reverse as used for 'Proportionate waist measure'.

Our tailor, Frank Williams Senior came to Wyndham in 1909, and started his own business in Balaclava Street, opposite the Post Office in 1915. His son, also Frank, took over the business after World War II, and this was the last tailoring business in Wyndham, finally closing in the mid-1970s.
