About this object

This is a personal effects bag in which the army returned Pte James Telfer's wallet, badge and photographs to his family following his death in World War One.

As a 22-year old Private in the Otago Regiment, James was killed in action in France on 24 August 1918. He is buried in Beaulencourt British Cemetery, Ligny-Thilloy.
