About this object

Newspaper clipping; showing the weather reports for the week ending November 30, 1930 at Ophir Meteorological station, Central Otago, where the Reverend Don acted as weather observer on behalf of the Meteorological Office. Written by hand at the top is "Herald" and the date Dec. 3, 1930.

Alexander Don was a Presbyterian minister and missionary, well known for his work with the Chinese gold miners of Central Otago in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Don retired to Ophir in 1923 where he kept meteorological records on behalf of the Met Office. This role was taken over by the postmistress on his death in 1934. Don's observations were taken in his garden at The Bungalow, just down the road from the Ophir Post Office.
