Titian souvenir plate
Triangular shaped souvenir plate of the Square, Palmerston North, c.1950s. Front has a white sketch design, tinted in yellow of the Hopwood Clock Tower, War Memorial, and the T & G (Temperance & General) spire.
c 1952 - 1965Place Made
Made of earthenware, glazed black on the front, white on the back.
'S10' by 'Titian Studios'.
230 mm diameter.
From the Titian Studio in Auckland. The studio began in the late 1940's as the Sherwood, then from 1952 - 72 was known as Titian Studio. It was best known for its toby & ornamental jugs, triangular wall plates and figures. This piece is handpainted and possibly dates to the early 1960s. By 1965 they had also switched to transfer images.
Can you please confirm that the back of the plate, marked S10, is ALSO marked Titian Studios? I am a member of the NZ Pottery Forum, and one of our admin has a similar plate with S10 on the back, and believed it was made by Titian Studios, but another member has since added that these were made by an Australian company, possibly Studio Anna. There is now some doubt of the origin, as Titian used 3 digits, not two. Any reply would be most appreciated.
