Mourning brooch. Oval black onyx mount with raised gold 'curls' around the edges. Oval glass centre compartment with a curl of brown / grey hair in it, tied with a fine gold metal thread band.

Subject and Association Description

The brooch belonged to the donor's husband's family. Mr F. MacIntire was the son of Doctor MacIntire, who was the first doctor in Palmerston North. He arrived in Palmerston North in 1884 from Jersey. The brooch belonged to his grandmother, and it contains the hair of his grandfather.
