Building [Willow Cottage]
About this objectWillow Cottage originally stood at 3 Akaroa Street, Parnell. It was built as a family home by William Bagnall, a ship's carpenter and cabinet maker. Well-seasoned Kauri timber was used in its construction. As with many houses of this period, the roof is made of wooden shingles and the wallboards are vertical in the plank and batten style. The veranda was added about 1880 and it has delicate fretwork brackets between the posts and beam. All 4 rooms in the cottage have plenty of windows and attractive cove ceilings. The front rooms have casement windows with wooden fastenings. In the parlour (lounge) there is a feature lead-light window with stained glass inserts.
