About this object

Trophy honours belt fought for by the best of the Te Aroha riflemen. Mr Knock was a volunteer with the Te Aroha Rifle Company c1896. He was also the proprietor of the Hot Springs Hotel, the largest hotel in Te Aroha. He gave the belt for the local men to compete for in their rifle practice.The belt is in segments, including a metal reinforced pouch with double rifle insignia (Martin-Henry rifles). The names of the winners have been engraved onto silver plaques riveted to the belt. Originally white painted leather.
