Drinking Fountain; 1906; 10

Name/Title

Drinking Fountain

About this object

One of a set of 3 drinking fountains that were installed in the Hot Springs Domain, Te Aroha in 1906. It was used for fresh water rather than mineral water and as a result it has stayed in very good condition. It was to be removed and destined for the rubbish dump in about the 1970s when a local woman rescued it and took it to her garden in Waihi. Local initiative Project Te Aroha 'rediscovered' and purchased it in 1994. The blue and cream colours were the colours of the Government Tourist Board which administered the Domain park until the 1970s
