About this object

These three clay pipes were found on Wynyard Hill, on old Waipu Road East, Mangawhai. Circa 1995. The 58th Foot Regiment was stationed in this location during the mid 1880's. One pipe has 'Kai Ora' written on the side of the bowl. Another pipe has a design of a scotch thistle, and leaves. The last pipe has a feather, a wagon wheel and two crossed rifles? design on the bowl.
All in good condition.
Note: It was common practise for hotels, in the mid 1800's, to give out clay pipes free to patrons, to facilitate socialising and to encourage tobacco purchase.
