About this object

The first compact electric portable sewing machine, with a 'free arm'. Made in Switzerland 1940. Excellent condition.
'Elna' #1 Sewing Machine known as 'the Grasshopper' ; green colour. It was owned by the donor's mother's cousin from Robertsons' Sewing Centre Queen St, Auckland. It was bought by Myrtle Connor who was a milliner working at Milne & Choyce, Queen Street, Auckland.
