They are in 3 parts.
Part One - is an introduction to the Foote Family and their emigration on "The Clara" from Scotland to New Zealand in 1864, their eventual arrival in Auckland and subsequent settlement in Northland, New Zealand. Information includes the kauri logging and gum industry, Chief Wheiwhei, The Powell Family and descendants, the Thwaites Family and descendants, Puhi Puhi Forest fire, the ship 'The Marlborough' and the Foote Family settlement at Taiwawe.
Part Two - contains information about the early settlers in the Helena Bay / Whangaruru area. Topics covered include, alcohol distillation, cattle droving, bullock teams, Northern Steamship Company, coastal scows, timber milling industry, early transportation, health services and schooling at Helena Bay.
Part Three - contains information about WW1 experiences whilst serving in the New Zealand Mounted Rifles, 1914 to 1918. References include Gallipoli, Palestine, Lemmos Island, Sinai Peninsular, Egypt, Cairo, Zeetown, health issues, recuperation from injury and adjustment to civilian life when the war was over.

Frederick James Foote, who grew up at Taiwawe, married in 1936, to Catherine Victoria Alice Foote nee Thwaites b. 1901 d.1991. Their property was on Black Swamp Road, Mangawhai. Their daughter was Judith Margaret Brown nee Foote b. 1940 d 2019.
