About this object
Surveyor's chain; a chain of 60 links, with the two ends having square, hand- pieces. A surveyor's chain traditionally has 100 links (40 are missing from this example).
It is thought that this chain was one used to measure Owaka in 1863, by Mr C W Adams, Surveyor, and Mr John Reay and Mr Glasgow Logan, Chainmen.
